Our visit to Shanghai started with a temperature scan at the airport. No on was let off the flight unless their temp read less than 100 degrees.

Temperatures were taken again every time you walked through the door of the hotel. We had to submit an itinerary of our activities daily . . . where we traveled and with whom we met. This was a government mandate, taken very seriously by the staff.

We took time to visit the Silk King to get Mel fitted for a new silk sportcoat and slacks. There were no other customers, so we had very special treatment, and got "very special price." He was measured in the afternoon, fitted the next afternoon, and picked up his finished outfit that evening.

One clerk figures out our bill on the abacus, while the tailor and our salesperson, Miss Gu, make sure everything fits just right.

Sunday morning in front of the Shanghai Museum. All over town, the Shanghainese gather on the weekends to dance. And, they take it very seriously. There were groups practicing fancy footworkon the sidelines, and others doing intricate dance moves to the delight of the watching crowds.
